2007 Raids & Pillagings
aka
Official Pirate Trips, Races, & Events

  • Upcoming (Note: To be part of a Pirate event, you must realize waters in the Adirondacks can be extremely dangerous, with winds in excess of 30 mph and waves approaching 5 feet high. Even though the event might begin in mirror smooth waters, the weather can change rapidly. You must prepare for the worst, by being physically fit and carrying appropriate safety/rescue equipment (e.g. life jacket, spray skirt, pump, paddle bag). You must fully accept that you are responsible for your own safety. The Adirondack Pirates are good Samaritans and will always attempt to help those in distress (whether they are blokes, wenches, or damsels), but they cannot be liable if problems occur. (Caution- Trip reports below may be written in jest, with truths lying between the words. Our pirates have a sense of humor but water safety comes first. )

    • February 11th - Tub Mill Marsh - (Photos by Scurvy Scott)
Crew:  Gretchen (friend of Smelly and the Captain), Scurvy Scott, Icebreaker, Smelly Ellie and Captain Dangerous.....

Icebreaker was first to arrive at Carl R's.  However, his participation on this trip was cut short because he was inside having breakfast and parked out back, so none of us thought he showed up.  Smelly looked out back for his car, but did not recognize it, therefore we did not bother to go inside the restaurant to check if he was there or not.  We tried to call him, but we only had his home phone on our cells and he was not at home.  We waited until 9:20, but decided we better head out (leaving Icebreaker sitting alone at Carl R's - never knowing we were there at all).  Poor Icebreaker.....Moral being:  never park out back and always look inside the restaurant.  Anyway....
The snowshoe started at 10:45 AM at the trailhead- a nice sunny day, the four of us had a good hike to the Tubmill Lean-to.  We found a large contained area on the top of the hill before we arrived at the lean-to where most all the trees were twisted and downed.  Looked like a twister had touched down at sometime.  This was usually a thick wooded area we always called the black forest.  Now it was as open as the marsh.  Anyway, we explored behind the lean-to down to the Marsh where it was breezy, then headed back to the lean-to for lunch.  After good conversation and something in our tummys, we headed back to the cars.  The only other life forms we saw were little red squirrels.   We made it back to the vehicles a little before 2:00 PM and really enjoyed the workout.  This is a really nice trail and there are other trails from it that take you further into the Pharoah Wilderness.
Even though you were not there, Icebreaker, we were thinking of you and we will make it up to you....Sorry we missed you......Smelly and the Captain
    • January 6th- Hudson River-
Five pirates showed up on a warm saturday to paddle on the Hudson River. We launched from Nolan Rd. in So. Glens Falls, and paddled into the current and wind. With some effort we paddled a little over 3 miles to Hudson Pt. When we turned the corner of the river to paddle toward Hudson Pt. a gust of wind that I would estimate to be at least 45/50miles per/hr. hit us starboard. Pirates rested at a beach area on Hudson Pt. We had an easy 'ride' home. The fast moving current pushed us along easily and the wind on our backs helped us too. Paddlers arrived back at So. Glens Falls at about 3:15PM. A nice paddle had by all. No other paddlers, boats, or creatures were out on the water this afternoon. Paddlers were: Smellie Ellen, Icebreaker, Tom Esmond, Nancy Finley, Capt'n Dangerous.....
    • 5th Annual New Year's Day Paddle - Lake George (many photos taken by our fellow pirate, De Mac) -13 pirates showed up despite a forecast of freezing rain. With a scream unto the heavens, the waters became smooth and all precipitation stopped. Missing were wenches, which was a disappointment to most. The group decided to pillage Diamond Island of all it's jewels. Four pirates, Baja Bill, Dr. Grog, De Mac and Mad Dog, decided that the lack of wenches was too much to bear. Rather than stay with the crew, who went on to Long Island, these four brave souls decided to mutiny and go on a search for able bodied wenches and additional crew members. They came upon a massive crowd-Polar Plunge Crowd
The crowd, upon seeing the four pirates went into a frenzy. A public announcement was made by a landlubber that the pirates were part of the infamous Adirondack Pirate Paddlers. The crowd immediately stampeded into the frigid waters to join up.

And that is the beginning of what is to come in 2007!
Happy New Year to all! Additional images of the stampede were taken by organizers and members of the Lake George Winter Carnival (Group 1, Group 2, Video) .
